2006

September– In conjunction with Gloaming Pictures, BHP produced a half-hour documentary pilot, Critical Hours, which was co-created and co-directed by Thomas Kail. Critical Hours was an official selection of the 2006 New York Television Festival.

August– BHP's Next Stage's Series presented a developmental reading of Kyle Jarrow's Hypochondria, featuring Todd Buonopane, Marin Ireland and James Waterston. The reading was directed by Evan Cabnet.

AugustThe Middle East, In Pieces: Inspired by an idea from BHP member Beau Willimon, and presented in conjunction with Cherry Lane Theater, BHP commissioned new short plays inspired by the Middle East Conflict. Kia Corthron, Israel Horovitz, Anne Nelson, Heather Raffo, Betty Shamieh, Leila Buck, and Beau Willimon all contributed work for this event, which was directed by Thomas Caruso.

March– Produced Savages, new play by Anne Nelson (The Guys) developed through BHP's Next Stages Series. The show featured Julie Danao-Salkin, Brett Holland, Jim Howard, and James Matthew Ryan . Chris Jorie directed the production, and the play is being published by Dramatist Play Service.

2005

August - Freestyle Love Supreme performed at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival – 25 shows/25 days; asked to perform at opening night of the festival and the opening of Film Festival.

July - BHP participated in the 2005 O’Neill Musical Theater Conference developing the new musical In the Heights.  Lin-Manuel Miranda was awarded for distinction in Lyric Writing.

June - Reading of JC2K Project (musical) by Brian Fountain - An ongoing reading series development, The JC2K Project tells the story of the government's newest secret weapon - Jesus Christ.  Through the modern miracle of genetic cloning the government brings back the messiah to do it's dirty work... until he breaks loose, gets a conscience, and falls in love.  The cast included Eliza Skinner, Ryan Kasperzack, Ryan McCallam, Ron Piretti, Julie Klausner, Kristen Schaal and Anthony Veneziale. Matt Kanelos accompanied on piano.  Directed by Neil Stewart.

May - Reading of Where's Cowboy by Jim Laurence - This screenplay is in development and slated to have a spring 2006 shoot date.  The story of a small town in New Jersey is set in the early 1960s' when the bookies ran the police, the business, the church and most importantly the action.  The cast included Maria Thayer, Jason Fisher, Jim Laurence, Robert LaVelle Ron Piretti, Neil Stewart, Emily Barth Isler, and Anthony Veneziale.   Directed by Anthony Veneziale

April - In the Heights workshop at Manhattan Theater Club. Back House's cutting edge developmental musical received a second workshop - this one for two weeks - at the world renowned The Manhattan Theater Club.  Music and Lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and book by Quiara Hudes. Arrangements are by Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman with Lacamoire also providing Musical Direction. Directed by Thomas Kail.

February - Freestyle Love Supreme at the Aspen Comedy Festival. Freestyle is accepted into the nation's premiere comedy festival, hosted by HBO, where they played to sold-out houses.  The multi-talented group was asked to be a part of Late Night Lounge hosted by Katherine O'Hara, and then to participate in a live TV special hosted by Jeff Garlin.

January - The Top Floor directed by Anthony Veneaziale - A 35 minute narrative fiction piece written by Jim Laurence starring Meaghan Butler, Laurence, and Veneziale.  Set in the West Village in the deteriorating apartment of a once famous playwright, the film explores the love-triangle relationship between the playwright, his typist and his young protégé.  Edited by Jim Isler and Filmed by Tom Guiney.

2004

December - Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller join the In the Heights team.  The producers of Rent and Avenue Q teamed with producer Jill Furman (associate producer of Broadway's Sly Fox and Fortune's Fool) to take Lin-Manuel Miranda's and Quiara Hudes' musical to new heights.  Musical Arrangements provided by Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman and Music Direction by Alex Lacamoire.  Thomas Kail continued to direct and shape this exciting piece at the Manhattan Theater Club in December 2004.

November - Reading of Farragut North.  Performers included:  Dan Lauria, Mark Jacoby, Anthony Veneziale, Mia Barron, Jess Weixler and Max Ferguson.    The play when on to win the 2005 Dayton Playhouse FutureFest.

November - Reading of Savages by Anne Nelson. Patch Daragh, Bob LaVelle, and Robert Walden read the sophisticated new work by Anne Neslon, author of the off-Broadway hit The Guys. Savages takes place in Manila in 1902 during the height of the Philippine-American conflict. Nelson explores the dark complexities of counter-insurgency warfare with insight, nuance and compassion. Directed by Thomas Kail.

October 2004 thru July 2005 - Back House Co-Produced The Striking Viking Story Pirates 2004-2005 show at The Arthur Seelen Theater. The Story Pirates are an ensemble of actors who adapt stories written by elementary school children into a sketch comedy show, as a means to teach young people a love of writing and an appreciation of the arts.  The show routinely played to sold out crowds and represents the kind of innovative educational theater that Back House seeks to promote.

October 2004 thru December 2004 - Freestyle Love Supreme in an 8 week run at the Ars Nova Theater with numerous extensions.   The 2004 signature Back House hip-hop comedy hit played to sold out crowds for months in its first full-scale production.

August thru September - Fringical!: A Fringical!! by Sam Forman, Eli Bolin and Thomas Kail at Ars Nova, then the New York Music Theater Festival. Thomas Kail conceived of and assembled an all-star Back House team to create this hilarious musical, which lampooned the state of theater and theater festivals in New York.  Music by Eli Bolin; Lyrics by Sam Forman; Book by Thomas Kail and Sam Forman.  Musical Staging by Neil Stewart; Fringical! was first presented to a sell-out crowd at Ars Nova, then accepted into the first annual New York Music  Festival at The American Theater of Actors. The cast was comprised of Jessica Snow-Wilson, Billy Eichner, Patch Darragh, Drew Callander, Michael, Cyril Creighton, Patrick Heusinger and Anne Jacoby.

March - Reading of The Grille Room by Sam Forman. The play went on to be selected for the Cherry Lane Theater's Mentor Project.  Acclaimed writer Michael Weller worked with Sam Forman for almost a year to develop this incisive play about anti-Semitism in the 1950's, which was then produced by the Cherry Lane in February 2005. Directed by Thomas Kail.

December - Playwrights and Performer Series - Richard Greenberg Tony-Award winning playwright Richard Greenberg (The Violet Hour, The Dazzle, Three Days of Rain) was featured in the Playwrights and Performer series, with Back House providing staged scenes from Take Me Out, in an event directed by Thomas Kail, and featuring actors Jonathan Bernstein, Chris Jackson, Marc Palmieri, and Neil Stewart.

October - Short digital video film, The Top Floor by James Laurence. Back House produced its first featurette in October, The Top Floor written by James Laurence. Directed by and co-starring Anthony Veneziale along with James Laurence and Megan Butler.

October - Hermitage of an Exiled Chain Smoker by Michael Cyril Creighton and Liz Blocker. BHP ensemble member, Michael Cyril Creighton's hit comedy from the NYC Fringe Festival was extended for a month-long run in the Arthur Seelen Theatre, directed by Carl Andress.

October - Five Years Later: A Special Reading of The Laramie Project. At the request of Romaine Patterson, a friend of Matthew Shepard, Back House Productions presented Five Years Later: A Special Reading of The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman as a fundraiser for the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Romaine joined a cast of Juliet Dyal, Gian-Murray Gianino, Jennifer Larkin, Ellyn Marsh, Christy Meyer, Jimmy Owens, Neil Stewart and Anthony Veneziale. Through the efforts of Back House, Ms. Patterson, and producer Patrick Hinds, thousands of dollars were raised for the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

September - Reading of new play Chemical Imbalance by Lauren Wilson. BHP had a closed reading to workshop the script with Matthew Graham Smith.

September
- The Guys by Anne Nelson. In a special fundraiser on September 10th and 11th for the New York Historical Society, director Thomas Kail was asked to stage special performances of Anne Nelson's play, The Guys. This play, which ran off-Broadway for over a year, captures a moment in time between a writer and a fire captain, in the aftermath of 9/11. The show featured two-time Tony Winner, Swoosie Kurtz and Dan Lauria. The two shows were attended by over five hundred people, including dozens of New York City firefighters, raising thousands of dollars for the NY Historical Society. Kail was also part of a contingent, along the cast and author, to be present at the ringing of the opening bell of the American Stock Exchange on September 11th, 2003.

September
- Developmental production of Crazy Eyes by John Buffalo Mailer. BHP produced a developmental run of Crazy Eyes for a week in September. The production was directed by Paul Eckstein and featured PJ Sosko, Yvonne Scio (Days of Our Lives), Gian-Murray Gianino and John Buffalo Mailer.

August/September
- Freestyle Love Supreme
The trio of Darren Lorenzo, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anthony Veneziale make up Freestyle Love Supreme, an all-live freestyle hip-hop show. Developed over the past year the group exploded onto the scene, playing to standing room only houses at the Arthur Seelen Theater and the People's Improv Theatre in New York City.

June - A special reading of Feiffer's People. At the request of Pulitzer-Prize Winning writer Jules Feiffer, Back House Productions was asked to present Feiffer's People for the culmination of a three month retrospective on Feiffer at the New York Historical Society. Under the direction of Thomas Kail, the cast included Michael Cyril Creighton, Cathy Curtin, John Buffalo Mailer, Neil Stewart, Anthony Veneziale, and Frank Wood.

May - Reading of new play, The Speed of Light by Alice O'Neill with Tony-Award Winner, Frank Wood, for the Next Stage Reading Series.

May - Reading of new play, Nobody's Child by Beau Willimon for Next Stage Reading Series. Back House teamed up with writer Beau Willimon for this installment in the Next Stage Reading Series. Directed by Thomas Kail, the cast included Patch Darragh, Christy Meyer, and Ed Vassalo.

May - Readings of new play, Crazy Eyes by John Buffalo Mailer for Next Stages Reading Series. John Buffalo Mailer's new piece Crazy Eyes was presented in the Arthur Seelen Theatre for further development in our Next Stage Reading Series. The cast included Ashley Knaysi, Gian-Murray Gianino, John Buffalo Mailer and Anthony Veneziale and was directed by Neil Stewart.

May - Reading of new play, Last Will and Testament by Jennifer Houlton. As a part of the Next Stage reading series Jennifer Houlton developed her new play Last Will and Testament. This staged reading was the first presentation after six months of development with Back House and it featured Jeff Weiss, David Thornton, John Gladstein, Melissa Leo, and Anthony Veneziale, and was directed by Siofra Campbell.

April - Readings from Wonder of the World by David Lindsay-Abaire, done in conjunction with the Drama Book Shop. In conjunction with the Drama Book Shop, Back House plays a part in an ongoing series, Playwrights and Performers, which brings talented writers like David Lindsay-Abaire (Fuddy Meers, Kimberly Akimbo, Rabbit Hole) into the Arthur Seelen Theatre for a reading of some of their work, as well as a question and answer session with theater critic David Finkle. For this event, Thomas Kail, working with the author, staged scenes from Lindsay Abaire's Wonder of the World. The reading featured Cathy Curtin, Mary Fogerty, Anne Newhall, and Christina Pabst.

April - Reading of new play, No Traveler Returns by Robert Lewis Vaughan. Robert Lewis Vaughan's new play, directed by Obie-Award Winner Austin Pendleton for Next Stages Reading Series.

April - Fundraiser for new musical In the Heights at the Repertorio Espanol. In June of 2003, BHP presented its inaugural musical, In the Heights, for the first time outside the Arthur Seelen Theatre.

March - Reading of revised new play, Quarterlife by Sam Forman for Next Stages Reading Series. Sam Forman's Quarterlife was revised and revisited with another presentation directed by Thomas Kail for the Next Stage Reading series. Featuring Austin Lyssy, Armando Riesco, Ellen Shanman, and Nicole Peron.

March - In Pieces. Back House presented new work in a dynamic original format with its production of In Pieces. Five writers/ solo performers came together under the direction of Neil Stewart to present solo work with an ensemble twist. The cast included Juliet Dyal, Lindsay Halladay, Peter Levine, Ben Sheaffer and Michael Cyril Creighton.
